If you’ve got a hankering for a little royal sightseeing or even simply longing to admire something beautiful, there are many amazing things to do in Alappuzha. Travel just a short distance down the road, and you’ll discover a smattering of palaces and monuments that date back several centuries. Hill Palace Museum Tripunithara is nestled in the neighbouring vicinity of Cochin, and is well worth the visit. It is the largest archaeological museum in the state, former imperial administrative office and official residence of the royal highness of Cochin.

Hill Palace Museum Tripunithara was built in the year 1865 by the Cochin Maharaja. The opulent palace complex comprises a total of 49 buildings, spread across 54 lush acres of land, in the traditional architectural style of Kerala. The impressive museum boasts of 14 categories of exhibits, including a rare collection of the crown’s memorabilia - ornaments, jewels, paintings, weapons, inscriptions, and sculptures, made out of stone and marble. We’d recommend spending a good time at Hill Palace Museum Tripunithara, surveying the historic archives. In particular, make sure to check out the gold crown studded with precious gems.
