The world’s tallest statue, the Statue of Unity, is located approximately 1 hour 30 minutes, i.e. 65 km, from Club Mahindra Netrang. It is a colossal statue of Indian statesman and freedom fighter Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who was the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of independent India.
A marvel of construction technology, the Statue of Unity was completed in 57 months. Constructed on a river island named Sadhu Bet located on the Narmada River in the Kevadiya colony, the Statue of Unity stands a whopping 182 metres tall.
The Statue of Unity attracts a daily average of more than 15,000 visitors, much more than the Statue of Liberty in the US.
From the base to the level of the statue’s shins, are a memorial garden, a museum exhibition area, a mezzanine area, and a roof. The museum catalogues the life of Sardar Patel. An audio-visual gallery depicts a presentation on Sardar Patel and the tribal culture of Gujarat state.
When one visits the Statue of Unity, one is initially struck with awe at the sheer size and height of the statue. But real delight must be reserved for the viewing gallery. For a truly awesome visual treat, you can take a lift through either of the lifts in the two concrete towers (the statue’s legs) to the amazing viewing gallery, at a height of 153 metres.
