The hill station of Saputara in Maharashtra houses a gem. Yes, we’re talking about the Hatgad Fort – an ancient citadel that was built by the great Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj during his reign. Built in the 16th-century on the state border of Gujarat and Maharashtra, the Hatgad Fort Trek is a great way for your family to witness some splendid landscapes and stunning vistas of the Sahyadris. Obviously then, when it comes to things to do in Hatgad, you must not miss the chance to trek to this landmark. And to do that, all you need to do is check into a Club Mahindra resort in Maharashtra and plan a trip to Saputara.

Let’s begin with the good news first. The plateau which houses the ruins of the Hatgad Fort is easily accessible by road. So, from the base, you’ll take about 30 minutes to reach the narrow, uneven flight of 200 stairs that lead up to the fort. Fear not, the Hatgad Fort Trek is not difficult and can be completed by even your kids. The steps can be a little slippery during the rains, so do be careful then.

Once on top, you’ll come across remnants like a water reservoir along with small cisterns, ramparts and a tower which was used to store grains. The main entrance gate has a Hanuman idol carved in rock. There’s also a statue of Lord Ganesha on the top of the fort. Given the fact that it is the highest point in the region, the view from the top is distinctly spectacular, which is what makes the Hatgad Fort Trek unforgettable. And if you happen to go there during the monsoons, you’ll find yourself literally floating in the clouds, with a magical view of the valley on both sides.

Want to catch a slice of heaven? Then we recommend, you try and catch the sunrise here. Or if you’re not an early bird, why not do the Hatgad Fort Trek and watch the sunset from here? To know more about the Hatgad Fort Trek experience, read the Club Mahindra member reviews.
