A peek into the history of life that will enthral kids and adults alike. That is exactly what a visit to the 180 million years old Akal Wood Fossil Park will do. When you are holidaying at the regal Club Mahindra resort at Jaisalmer, you must visit the 180 million years old Akal Wood Fossil Park. From the resort at Jaisalmer, the Akal Wood Fossil Park is approximately 25 kilometres away. You’ll take about 40 minutes to get there.

A national geological monument of India, Akal Wood Fossil Park is also a biodiversity heritage site. The park has many treasures that offer a glimpse of a bygone era. There are fossils of Pterophyllum, Ptilophyllum, Equisetites species and Gastropod Shells of the early Jurassic period. A dozen fossilised wood logs lie in random directions. The fossils date back 180 million years. According to experts, the petrified wood is indicative of lush forests in a tropical warm and humid climate. The fossils of the gastropod shells also suggest that the region was a sea once upon a time. We are sure you are already longing to visit the 180 million years old Akal Wood Fossil Park.

The park is open throughout the week. However, it would be a good idea to check for days and time of operation beforehand. There is a small museum located in the premises. There are various photographs of the fossils with descriptions for those who are interested.
