Binsar, named after Veeneshwar (a name for Lord Shiva), is rich in myths and historical significance. Central to local folklore, the Binsar Mahadev temple is revered for its mystical alignment with other sacred sites and its rain-bringing powers. The area also hosts the legend of Dana Golu, a deity who protects the forest and aids the lost.
Historically, Binsar was the hunting
reserve of the Chand rulers. It was later converted to summer retreat for
British bureaucrats who preserved its natural state. In 1988, the region was
designated as a wildlife sanctuary to protect and maintain its diverse wildlife
and plant species. Now, it's a favoured spot for eco-tourism. It draws visitors
